Taizhou People’s Hospital, the largest hospital in Taizhou, will celebrate its 90th anniversary of the founding in June, 2007. The hospital was founded by American missionaries in 1917. It has developed greatly since the new century. Now it is the National Grade 3 Hospital and the center of medical care, teaching and research in Taizhou area.
The hospital has three parts, north part, south part and an infectious hospital. It covers 218 mu (145,300 square meters) with buildings of 100,000 square meters, including a 19-storey inpatient building of 21,000 square meters and a 6-storey clinic and emergency building of 20,100 square meters. Besides, a new 15-storey inpatient building of 50,000 square meters is under construction and will admit patients in the end of 2008. It has 1,300 sick beds, the number of which was only 500 six years ago. There are 1,300 medical workers and staff members. Among them about 100 have doctor’s and master’s degree, over 200 have got high ranking professional title and over 400 have got middle-ranking professional title. It has 27 in-patient sections and 48 clinical and technical divisions of Class 1 and Class 2. The departments of digestive disease, orthopedics, hepatology, oncology, nuclear medicine, pediatrics, intervention, burn & plastic surgery, otorhinolaryngology-heat-neck surgery, respiratory disease, angiocardiopathology and general surgery are the key professions in Taizhou. Its fix assets are over 300 million yuan. There are 661 sets of instruments and apparatus worth over 10,000 yuan, including Siemens spiral CT scanner (16-layer), 1.5T MRI system, Siemens DSA, high energy medical linear accelerator, ECT and etc.
The professional skills have been improved greatly and advanced techniques have been introduced and applied widely in the hospital. The operations and treatments, such as cardiac transplantation, hepatic transplantation, hepatic oncotomy, hetero-stem-cell transplantation, treatment of deafness with artificial cochlea implantation, reconstruction of phonation after cricoidectomy of most upper larynx in the treatment of laryngocarcinoma, screening premature infant retinopathy with evoked potential, implanting stand with endoscope to dilate malignant obstruction of bile duct, internal fixation by locked intramedullary pin, percutaneous removal of vertebral disc, coronary bulbous dilatation, radio frequency ablation, cardiac operation under direct vision with extracorporeal circulation, retrograde pancreatic-cocholangiography, renal transplantation, re-plantation of severed limb, synchronous radio-chemotherapy, treatment of tumors with intervention, radio-frequency hyperthermia therapy, artificial liver and etc. are succeeded and have become routine treatments.
